Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century celebrates 40 years

August – November 2021.

The Reunion – Gran Partita – Die Zauberflöte/Die Schauspieldirektorin – Hohe Messe

Forty years ago Frans Brüggen conducted the first concerts with his Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw  (Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century). On 5th December, 2020, the anniversary year was opened with the premiere of May, composed by the recently deceased and much missed friend Louis Andriessen, who dedicated it to ‘founding father’ Frans Brüggen. This year, after all Corona restrictions, the 40th anniversary will be continued with a large number of events in Amsterdam.

The Reunion with Alexander Melnikov on 28th August will be followed by a series of concerts at home and abroad, including Mozart’s Gran Partita, a special semi-scenic performance of Die Zauberflöte/Die Schauspieldirektorin – with a starring role for soprano Roberta Alexander – and Bach’s Hohe Messe.
