Boijmans Van Beuningen reveals The Degradation Economy

To put a stop to the violence of plastic pollution, it would be necessary to think differently: how do you break down what you are going to make now? Boijmans presents The Degradation Economy, a bio-based answer to the pollution of the fossil economy. An online exhibition that proposes a shift in economic thinking, not growth but balance in nature.

The online exhibition The Degradation Economy can be visited virtually. At the invitation of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Studio Klarenbeek & Dros and the artist collective Atelier Van Lieshout show an image of an alternative production chain. One is realistic, the other abrasive. In addition, the designers Koehorst in ‘t Veld have created a graphic installation that shows the growth of the fossil and bio-based economy over the past decades. The result is an exhibition where reflection, innovative craftsmanship and raw power come together. In 2017, some fifty designers and artists in Boijmans already provided a solution to the flaws in our living system in the exhibition Change the System. With The Degradation Economy Boijmans digs further in the increasingly urgent search for alternative solutions.

The exhibition has been put together by curator Annemartine van Kesteren and the concept for the online environment was conceived and executed together with Koehorst in ‘t Veld and filmmaker Roel van Tour. The Degradation Economy was realized with the support of the Mondriaan Fund and the Creative Industries Fund NL.
