10th October 2024 – We have covered the Festival Classique the annual classical music festival held on the beach at Scheveningen for the past three years but sadly it will be no more due to increased costs and reduced funding. For eighteen years the Festival managed to attract more than 600,000 visitors with its excellent productions full of humour, imagination and emotion. Via its television broadcasts the Festival inspired a wide audience of music lovers throughout the Netherlands.
The festival recently received positive reviews from the The Hague gemeente and the Performing Arts Fund for the period 2025-2028. The unique positioning and relevance of the festival, and the large-scale participation performances in particular, were praised. The gemeente awarded a higher contribution than in recent years. However, despite higher contribution, the required budget for a classical festival by the sea wasn’t achievable due to increased costs and other declining contributions, which means that the curtain falls after 18 editions of Festival Classique.
