Full houses for OSCAR at Theater Carré in Amsterdam

Jubilee performance at Carré with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Blaudzun attracts 23,000 visitors.

Last Sunday, 25th September, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Royal Theater Carré concluded the highly successful series of Oscar performances in a sold-out theatre . The performance, commissioned by Carré in honour of its 135th anniversary, received favourable reactions.

In three weeks, 23,000 visitors found their way to the theatre on the Amstel. Dance, theatre, circus and live music by Blaudzun came together on the arena and choreographer Ed Wubbe created an ode to Oscar Carré, the founder of theatre on the Amstel.

At the last final applause, special attention was paid to Bonnie Doets, the star dancer is saying goodbye to the dance stage this season after a career of 30 years. Oscar was also Ed Wubbe’s last new production in his role as Artistic Director. Wubbe will remain associated with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam as a choreographer.

Almost all of Oscar’s eighteen performances were sold out. The entire ensemble of dancers from Scapino, the eight circus artists from Codarts Circus Arts and Blaudzun received a standing ovation night after night from the audience, who rated the performance with an average of 9.1.

The press was also enthusiastic and called Oscar “a perfect harmony, in which the different disciplines allow each other to rise to unprecedented heights, sometimes literally” (Theatreparadise), “a dazzling spectacle, a pleasure to watch” (Theatekrant) and concluded ” It’s big, it’s a lot, but most of all it’s really good.” (Musical news).
