Kunsthal Rotterdam appoints new Director

The supervisory board of Kunsthal Rotterdam will appoint Marianne Splint as general manager/director with effect from 14th February 2022. She will be responsible for the strategic and artistic course, in collaboration with business director/director Herman van Karnebeek, who is responsible for commercial management.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board Arjan Schakenbos about the appointment of Marianne Splint: “We are very pleased with the arrival of Marianne Splint. Her experience, network and connecting and enterprising character and her keen eye for social and cultural developments fit in perfectly with the dynamics of the Kunsthal. We are confident that she is the right person to lead this unique institution.”

Marianne Splint (1982) has been the general director of Museum Helmond since 2012, which consists of Helmond Castle and Kunsthal Helmond. Splint has ensured strong growth here, both organisationally, financially and in terms of public reach, and under her leadership the museum has developed from a municipal museum into a more independent and headstrong institution at the heart of society. Splint, with a background in visual arts, art history and general cultural studies, has also been a board member of the Museum Association trade association since 2018.

Marianne Splint about her appointment: “Kunsthal Rotterdam is an incomparable and leading institution in a city that is always on the move. The Kunsthal is firmly rooted in Rotterdam and at the same time has an enormous reach throughout the country and international allure. The accessible and idiosyncratic way of presenting in combination with the high quality and great diversity of the program: this is an institution that I am happy to contribute to. I look forward to further expanding the success of the Kunsthal, together with the highly committed team, the makers and the many collaboration partners.”     7th December 2021
