Since the 1990s, Stichting KunstWerkt has been uniting a large group of artists from Schiedam and the surrounding area. The foundation organizes a dozen exhibitions and related activities each year.
The exhibitions in our exhibition space are a meeting place to share ideas and inspiration, but also a bridge from artist to audience.
The Stichting KunstWerkt consists of about 60 ‘participants’ from Schiedam and surroundings, a board and an Advisory Board. KunstWerkt functions more or less as a self-managing organization.
The participants determine the output of the foundation: what kind of exhibitions and activities take place, what communication is generated around them, which artists participate. On the participants page you can find information about the artists: photos, their websites, their exhibitions.
Two or three times a year, ‘participant meetings’ take place. These evenings serve in particular as a moment of contact between the participants. We start with a joint informal meal. Usually a guest is invited to talk about their own work or about a project. With or without a call to participate. New participants are introduced and briefly tell something about their background and motivation to become a participant. Of course, there will also be discussions about the direction of the foundation and various practical matters will be discussed. The meetings are also attended by board members. In addition, the members of the Advisory Board are invited.
