Due to the large-scale renovation and renewal of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the 160,000 titles from the museum library have been transferred to the Rotterdam City Archives. From now on, the museum’s art library – one of the largest and most important in the Netherlands – is open to the public again. The collection of books, (auction) catalogues and magazines runs largely parallel to that of the museum: ancient and modern art (paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, installations, etc), ceramics, glass, silver, design and utensils. Very special is the collection of surrealistic sources (such as the magazine Minotaure) and secondary literature on surrealism.
On the second floor of the Rotterdam City Archives at Hofdijk 651 a separate reading room has been set up for the museum library. The library’s opening times remain the same – from Tuesday to Friday from 11.00 to 16.30. Publications from the collection can be consulted here on request but borrowing is not possible.
