Wereldmuseum (formerly Museum Volkenkund) is one of the oldest ethnological museums in the world and is at the center of current events. The museum makes you curious about the enormous cultural diversity that the world has to offer.

Wereldmuseum is a museum about people, located in a monumental building on the Singel. Visitors reach the museum via the garden, where the meter-high totem pole welcomes them.

Exhibitions

The museum regularly presents changing exhibitions and displays objects from eight cultural areas in the permanent exhibition. Objects that each tell a human story. Stories about universal human themes such as mourning, celebrating, decorating, praying or fighting. They make you curious about the enormous cultural diversity that the world has to offer. From Oceania to the Arctic, from Geisha to the Buddha and from Mecca to Leiden. In the Wereldmuseum you will discover that, despite the differences, we are all the same.
