Welcome to ArtsTalk Magazine Holland

Launched in June 2017, we provide previews, reviews and information, in English, for theatres, art exhibitions, concerts, opera etc, concentrating on cities in south west Netherlands. We cover Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and everything in between and nearby – an area known as Randstad. Each venue, museum or gallery has its own page with information and a link to its website. The site is updated on a daily basis.

Here’s a run down of some other events coming up in the next few weeks in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and places nearby and in between. . .

There is so much going on in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and nearby there are hardly enough days in the week to see or do everything. Luckily a lot of the exhibitions, events and tours run for quite a long time so if you have missed anything, don’t worry, it may still be running.

SOUWIE ON . . . The Arts

Each month Souwie Buis writes on a subject related to the arts in Holland and further afield.

This month Souwie reflects on the practice of creating stage works from well known, successful films. Rotterdam’s Scapino Ballet’s version of the classic Casablanca being a notable recent example . . .

SOFONISBA ANGUISSOLA – Portraitist of the Renaissance at Rijksmuseum Twenthe

For a noble woman like Sofonisba Anguissola it was extremely difficult to become a professional painter for a number of reasons. First of all, a lady of her standing was not allowed to sell her work. The portraits she made were paid for by returning favours to her family. Secondly, even though learning how to paint befitted a noble lady, there was no way she was allowed to study the human anatomy.

Although we concentrate on Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam and everything else in between and nearby there are lots of other interesting events happening elsewhere

As Vermeer is all over the news at the moment we are back in Delft – but not discussing the old master. We visit the contemporary art galleries in the city and talk to the owners. We are at Artline, Galerie Ruimte Remmelink, Art Jacobs, Kunstkamer and Galerie de Zaal . All of them are right in the centre of town and all show an eclectic mix of high quality art.

Literature Festival in The Hague

WINTERNACHTEN INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE FESTIVAL

On 16th and 21st April Winternachten International Literature Festival 2023 continues in The Hague welcoming writers, poets, spoken word artists and musicians. Under the motto All the World’s a Book, each program focuses on a different topical theme. The lectures, interviews and conversations are about writing in wartime, about the literary and poetic answers to slavery and colonialism and about the exhaustion of the earth.
