ZUIDERSTRANDTHEATER
The theatre is now closed
A remarkable theatre in many ways. Situated a long way from the centre of The Hague’s seaside resort of Scheveningen it nestled under rolling dunes and from a distance looked like a minor nuclear power station. It was surely one of the few theatres which had sand swirling round the foyer and was right next to the docks with large ships tied up only a few meters away .
That said, inside it was a comfortable theatre with an enormous stage and good sight lines. Although offering a very mixed bag of entertainment catering for all tastes it was, for several years, temporary home to the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Residentie Orkest until their own dedicated theater/concert hall in The Amare in the centre of The Hague opened at the end of 2021.
