Online tickets can now be bought for for Fenix: the new art museum about migration that will be open to the public from 16th May.
Fenix is the world’s first art museum about migration. It is housed in a restored monumental warehouse from 1923 that stands on the quays of departure and arrival in the city of Rotterdam. Quays where a new life began for millions of people. On their way to the United States or Canada or arriving from China, Cape Verde and Greece. At this location, Fenix gives space to more than a hundred artists, originating from all continents. They show that migration is timeless and universal.
In addition to the international art collection, a suitcase maze of two thousand suitcases donated by private individuals and the documentary photo exhibition The Family of Migrants will soon be on display. On the ground floor there will be Plein: a covered city square of 2000 square meters where Rotterdammers will create a program together with Fenix.
The largest work of art and the eye-catcher of Fenix is the Tornado. A double spiral staircase in the heart of the building. The staircase ends on a panoramic roof and was designed by the Chinese MAD Architects. With Fenix, MAD is the first Chinese architectural firm to open a museum building in Europe.
Fenix is open from 16th May from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and on Friday until 21:00. The online ticket gives access to all exhibitions and the Tornado: the double-turned stainless steel staircase that circles up from the museum building.
Fenix is an initiative of Dream and Action.
