Welcome to ArtsTalk Magazine Holland

Launched in June 2017, we provide previews, reviews and information, in English, for theatres, art exhibitions, concerts, opera etc, concentrating on cities in south west Netherlands (Noord/Zuid Holland and Utrecht regions). We cover Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and everything in between and nearby. Each venue, museum or gallery has its own page with information and a link to its website. The site is updated regularly and information is always coming in so there is always something new to discover or read about.

SOUWIE ON . . . The Arts

Each month Souwie Buis writes on a subject related to the arts in Holland and further afield.

This month Souwie asks if their should be a basic income for artists. Calls by the European Parliament to allocate 2% of the EU recovery package to the creative and cultural sectors was rejected by the Council. Here in the Netherlands financial support for larger cultural institutions deemed to be “of vital importance” and rent suspension for state museums, has not directly addressed the struggles of smaller organisations and individual artists.

EXTRACURRICULAR

Kinetic artist George Rickey exhibition near Antwerp

The major Alexander Calder exhibition has just finished at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam. Sculptor George Rickey met Calder in 1952, and also wrote about his work as a critic. However, Rickey’s oeuvre can be seen as a quest to add where Calder’s formal language left off, using more industrial materials as a reference to constructivism.
