LUDWIG X BOYS WON’T BE BOYS present a unifying musical spectacle casts new light on the classical repertoire at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ
In the lead-up to Pride 2025, the fearless music collective LUDWIG and the socially engaged theater movement Boys Won’t Be Boys come together to reimagine classical music through the lens of queerness. In a unique program exploring masculinity, sexuality, and identity, they reveal the hidden queer narratives embedded within familiar classical compositions.
This joyful mix of classical music, cabaret, dance, and spoken word features personal, moving, and relatable stories, from both the composers and the performers themselves.
Since 2018, Boys Won’t Be Boys has been breaking gender norms. With authentic stories, they challenge outdated ideas and create space for multiple perspectives and deep connection. Together with LUDWIG, they push musical boundaries and disrupt traditional norms with works by Schubert, Nico Muhly, Billie Strayhorn, Harry Bannink, and more, presenting a bold, moving, and refreshing new perspective on classical music.
