The new edition of ArtsTalk International is available

A good mix of the visual and performing arts for this edition. We were in Berlin for the opening of the Humboldt Lab, at Lenbachhaus in Munich and the Toy Museum in Nuremberg and we have reports on exhibitions in London, Belgium and Italy. All this and more in the fourth edition of ArtsTalk International . . .

Maarten van Heemskerck exhibitions in Haarlem

Surprisingly enough this is the first exhibition on Van Heemskerck in The Netherlands. In the 19th century he was largely ignored for being too Italian, and it took him an awfully long time to get rid of the negative aspect of this label for which he is now praised.

NDT presents SWITCH ’25 at Amare in The Hague

Every year, the dancers of NDT 1 and NDT 2 organize Switch: a unique programme put together entirely by the dancers, the entire proceeds of which go to charity. In addition to creating and dancing the works in the performance, the dancers themselves are in charge of the production, fundraising, marketing and communication.

HEARTCORE KANTOOR by MAN || CO in Utrecht and on tour

Ultimately, Heartcore Kantoor breaks the confines of the office through play. Beyond the well-crafted synthesis between performers, the use of symbolism through colours and shapes ties everything together. The cold blues, flashing lights, and angular set at the beginning are replaced by warm oranges, dim smoke, and rolling balls at the end.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by Dutch National Ballet

This beloved ballet holds a special place in my heart, thanks to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, which captures the wonder of the story so perfectly. In fact, it’s fair to say that the music is as famous as the ballet itself, with unforgettable pieces like the Waltz of the Flowers and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy transcending the stage.

STRĪ by Poernima Gobardhan at Theater Rotterdam

To mix contemporary dance, which is barely one hundred years old, with a style that is over two thousand years old, one would have thought, presents a challenge. The Hague based choreographer Poernima Gobardhan uses as a starting point Bharata Natyam, a dance form which originated in Tamil Nadu . . .

HERE WE LIVE AND NOW at Korzo in The Hague

Here We Are And Now is one of the (many) highpoints of the year at Korzo. Each December it invites three young international choreographers to showcase their work in a conducive and encouraging environment in front of a knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience. This year the participants came from Japan, Canada and Germany, the last two with strong links to The Netherlands, The Hague in particular.
