After 7½ years, artistic director Rémon Beeftink is leaving the Delft Fringe Festival. Thanks in part to his contribution and vision the festival has grown from a modest project into a thriving professional organization. “I have been able to experience the festival in many stages, from maker to artistic director. Now it is time for a new challenge.” On 1st January 2023, Rémon will be succeeded by Tamara Griffioen.
Rémon Beeftink looks back on his time at Delft Fringe Festival with great pleasure: “I have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful people. I am proud that I have been able to offer the new generation of makers a stage all these years to take their first steps. It was an honor to be part of the ‘Fringe family’.” With the start of 2023, Beeftink confidently hands over the baton to theater maker and dramatist Tamara Griffioen.
Earned his stripes
Tamara has been involved in the festival as a programmer since two editions and works closely with Beeftink. “Rémon is a hugely inspired artistic leader who has earned his stripes in the field,” she says. “I admire him for his confidence in the plans and concepts that makers send. He has been able to pick quality from the bizarre amount of registrations for years, with an eye for young or new makers who, full of energy, sometimes need some guidance. To experience the upcoming edition as artistic director feels like a whirlwind, but a very positive one!”
Tireless commitment
Roel Funcken, director of the Delft Fringe Festival: “The departure of Rémon is close to my heart and the festival team’s heart. In recent years I have been able to shape the substantive and organizational course of the festival together with him, as a beautiful pair of horses. The Supervisory Board and I are very grateful to him for his tireless commitment to a new generation of performing artists. We will miss his critical eye, his coaching approach and versatility enormously. At the same time, I am looking forward to working with Tamara Griffioen, who will give substance to the artistic leadership in her own way.”
To continue building
“I am sure that as the new artistic director, Tamara will make it an even more beautiful festival”, Rémon says. Tamara Griffioen: “I am looking forward to continuing to build on the beautiful and solid foundation that Rémon, together with festival director Roel Funcken, has created in recent years. Delft Fringe Festival has become a household name for new makers in the Netherlands. I look forward to being a beacon for them, through the festival, where they can develop themselves and their performance in a safe, yet professional environment.”
The next Delft Fringe Festival will take place between Wednesday, 31st May and Sunday, 11th June 2023.
