17th September – 10th October.
After the premature ending of the 60th anniversary season of Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) due to the measures surrounding COVID-19, the company proudly presents the first half of the 2020-2021 season.
Endlessly Free
Season 2020-2021 opens with Endlessly Free on 17th September, 2020, a triple bill featuring works by critically acclaimed choreographers Medhi Walerski and Crystal Pite. Walerski will create a fresh new work for two dancers. Alongside this world premiere NDT 1 will stage his compelling Soon (2017). Soon started off with a piece of music that was of great significance to the choreographer: “The sheer uniqueness of his voice and the raw, profound poetry of his lyrics kindled a spark that I wanted to express through this piece; four songs, four dancers, echoing Benjamin Clementine’s vision of life.” The triptych is completed with Crystal Pite’s The Other You (2010), a duet she originally created for her company Kidd Pivot.
Dare to Say
The second programme of the season is the NDT 2 programme Dare to Say that premieres on 6th November, 2020. The programme presents two world premieres by two distinctive makers. Alexander Ekman and Dimo Milev challenge the dancers of the second company in their new creations with different approaches to movement and choreography.
After his own dance career, former NDT 2 dancer Alexander Ekman (Sweden, 1984) decided to focus exclusively on choreography in which he portrays a clever and percussive approach to movement and a special gift for staging. Ekman often composes the music and develops the stage designs for his choreographies.
After a full and rich career with several companies including Compañía Nacional de Danza and working with choreographers by the likes of William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin and Hans van Manen, choreographer Dimo Milev (Bulgaria, 1976) has developed a very distinctive movement quality that flows organically and is often rooted in close intimacy. He previously worked with NDT 2 for Up & Coming Choreographers in 2019. For his piece for Dare to Say Milev will be collaborating with composer Miguelangel Clerc Parada. The work marks his first creation for NDT’s regular programming. For his piece for Dare to Say Milev will be collaborating with composer Miguelangel Clerc Parada.
