Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) hosted Switch 2024 on 20th January. This programme is fully produced and created by the dancers of NDT, and all proceeds go to a charity chosen by the dancers. This year the dancers selected War Child, rallying community members and supporters in an effort to make a difference in the lives of children affected by conflict. The event, held at NDT’s home theatre Amare in The Hague, was an extraordinary showcase of talent, compassion, and solidarity, raising an impressive €40.000,- in support of War Child’s critical mission.
The charity dance event brought together dancers, performers, volunteers, and supporters united by a common goal: to create positive change and give hope to those who need it most. Roughly 1.400 attendees were treated to an electrifying evening of dance and entertainment, with performances created by NDT dancers Paxton Ricketts, Charlie Skuy, Omani Omskirk, Fay van Baar, Viola Busi, Demi Bawon, Casper Mott, Nathaniel Belnavis-Wright and Zenon Zubyk. And merchandise created with photographer Dion Bal and students of the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague.
All proceeds and donations from this performance will benefit War Child. Currently 468 million children worldwide grow up in war and violence. They feel unsafe, are fearful, aggressive or do not dare to make contact. War Child offers them psycho-social support, protection and education. Worldwide. With music, sports and games, they help these children process their violent experiences. In this way, the children regain confidence in themselves and others. That is of great importance. Because a child does not belong in war. Never.
“We are overwhelmed by the incredible generosity and support shown by our community,” said Willemijn Maas, Executive director at NDT, on behalf of the Switch team. “Together, we have demonstrated the power of compassion and solidarity in making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children affected by conflict. Every euro raised will go towards providing essential resources and support to those who need it most, helping to build brighter futures in the face of adversity.”
Ernst Suur, director War Child Netherlands, comments:
” Music and dance hold an extraordinary power. It connects people and works as an outlet for many. Especially also for children growing up in war. With music, dance, movement and play, War Child helps children process their violent experiences But we can’t do that alone. We are therefore very grateful to the dancers of Switch for this great proceeds and donation to War Child. ”
NDT and War Child extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event, including performers, volunteers, supporters, and attendees.
