Following previous successful online talks hosted by the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition with Hofesh Shechter, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Imre van Opstal, the next Learn from the Best will take place with choreographer Wim Vandekeybuys on the 17th November.
In this talk, Wim will share his professional journey and life experiences, offering inspiration for aspiring choreographers, dancers, and dance enthusiasts. What has shaped his path, and which elements have contributed to his success?
Wim Vandekeybus (1963) is a choreographer, dancer, photographer who, in the mid-1980s founded his renowned dance company, Ultima Vez. His debut, What the Body Does Not Remember (1987), won him immediate acclaim, including a Bessie Award for ground breaking work, followed by another Bessie for Les Porteuses de Mauvaises Nouvelles (1989). Vandekeybus’ productions are evocative, interdisciplinary montages, balancing autonomy with dynamic theatricality. Live music, video, and film are integral to his performances, providing an expressive drive that has uniquely influenced modern dance in Belgium and worldwide.
