16th August 2025 – Due to irreconcilable technical difficulties at our server we have decided to move ArtsTalk Magazine to another platform. The magazine will look different, better we think, with a cleaner, more modern design that is equally comfortable on a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone.

There is so much going on in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and nearby there are hardly enough days in the week to see or do everything. Luckily a lot of the exhibitions, events and tours run for quite a long time so if you have missed anything, don’t worry, it may still be running.

There are lots of events taking place on a weekly, monthly or occasional basis. There are literary events, musical events and, of course, stand-up comedy. Here is a list of venues or events in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and places nearby with links to their websites

MARIANNE VON WEREFKIN Pioneer of Expressionism at De Fundatie in Zwolle

The exhibition of Marianne von Werefkin at De Fundatie in Zwolle starts with an intimate painting of Vera Repin knitting a child’s sock. It confirms that Ilja Repin was right in comparing her treatment of chiaroscuro to that of Rembrandt! However, the self-portrait she makes a decade later shows that she is moving away from this academic style of painting more towards impressionism.

Although we concentrate on Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam and everything else in between and nearby there are lots of other interesting events happening elsewhere

This new book reveals, among other secrets, that Johannes Vermeer initially painted the house in his renowned painting The Little Street (c. 1658–1659) with the door closed. Also discovered is that the woman now seated in the doorway is a mirrored copy of the figure he at first placed at the alley’s entrance to the left of the house.
