Rijksmuseum starts Artist in Residence Programme

8th July 2024 – This week the Rijksmuseum started a campaign to recruit an Artist in Residence. Artists can submit proposals until 8th September, 2024 for the realization of a work of art or an artistic intervention based on the collection, history or other aspects of the Rijksmuseum. The chosen artist receives a stipend and additional budget for this. The artist will have access to the collections, library, archive, laboratories and expertise of the Rijksmuseum throughout 2025.

Talent development

As one of the leading heritage institutions in the Netherlands, the Rijksmuseum aims to enter into a direct alliance with the broad field of artists in our country with this Artist in Residence Program. The museum offers them annual opportunities to become acquainted with a large and inspiring art institute, to reflect on the museum collections or the Rijksmuseum institute, and thus further develop their artistic talents.

Fellowships

The annual residency is embedded in the broader Rijksmuseum Fellowship Program that the Rijksmuseum offers to university scientists. The expectation is that additional cross-pollination will be generated between art and science.

The Rijksmuseum Artist in Residence Program is made possible by the Mondriaan Fund, and through the Rijksmuseum Fund: Conrad Whelan 42 Fund, ABREZIEL Fund and a private donor.
