As a result of the measures taken to fight COVID-19, Stichting MiMa, the organization behind RIDCC, had to decide to cancel the competition on 11, 12 and 13 June at Theater Rotterdam. The uncertainty concerning travelling to the Netherlands in June from all over the world is too great a risk. Health of our international participants and employees is our number one priority. The next edition of RIDCC will take place on 24, 25 and 26 June 2021 in Theater Rotterdam.
RIDCC Founders Maya Roest and Mischa van Leeuwen: “Since the previous edition of RIDCC, our team worked non-stop to make the 2020 edition a success. Unfortunately, reality has overtaken these plans. It feels so contradictory: for our own safety we are now rightly advised to maintain a distance between each other, and we have to get used to the concept of ‘social distance’.While in the dance world and for us at RIDCC, we want to bring people from all over the world together to create shared memories. Let our memories of dancing and performing be an encouragement to get through these difficult and surreal times. Our third edition of RIDCC is now planned in June 2021, and we are already looking forward to it. June 2021 will be a time for new encounters and making new memories.”
This year RIDCC received 332 entries from choreographers from 50 different countries. The organization would announce in April which duets were selected by the pre-jury for the semi-finals on June 11 and 12 in Rotterdam. On Saturday 13 June, nine partner awards and the XL Production Award with a production budget of € 100,000, made possible by Stichting Droom en Daad, were to be awarded during the grand final. All 332 participants of RIDCC 2020 have been informed and can all register again for the 2021 edition. Registration will start in December 2020.
