The 2018 Art Rotterdam that took place between 8th and 11th February in the historical Van Nelle factory, was once again a major success. The 19th edition of this annual and dynamic presentation of the, mainly, young art, attracted 26,500 art lovers and professionals both domestic and international. As the centre of the Art Rotterdam Week, an annual four day Art event in the city, the fair once again exceeded the forecasts. Fons Hof: “The city was buzzing all week long during, for instance, the spectacular openings in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and De Kunsthal (The Art Hall) and during performances in Art Centre Witte de With”.
Both domestic and international galleries were unanimous in their opinion about the sales: Again admirable results were achieved. Even during the first hour of the fair, Gallery Upstream sold an enormous painting of 3.40 meters high and 5.20 meters wide to a Belgian collector. Galerie Borzo sold 5 paintings and 17 works on paper, of the Dutch artist Koen Vermeule and in the video section Projections, the Paris gallery Dix9 sold two animations, consisting of 1,800 drawings of the Serbian artist Nemanja Nikolic to both a Swiss and a Dutch collector.
Fons Hof: “There is an increase of international interest for Art Rotterdam. There was a remarkable number of active foreign collectors this year”.
