The Nederlands Kamerkoor conducted by Martina Batič will tour the country with Ester. In this musical ode to courageous women through the ages, Shiva Feshareki provides the hypnotic soundscapes and the choir performs music by David Lang. The accompanying video installation Living in America with dancer BOSSLADY was directed by visual artist Miriam Kruishoop.
In the performance Esther, the Nederlands Kamerkoor focuses on old and modern power women. Source of inspiration is the biblical figure Esther, an ancient icon of empowerment, who saved the Jewish people from genocide by taking matters into her own hands. The choir is led by the Slovenian conductor Martina Batič, in combination with the electronic sounds of the Iranian-American turntable artist Shiva Feshareki.
In this musical tribute to courageous women through the ages, the hypnotic soundscapes of Shiva Feshareki are interspersed with parts of the writings, David Lang’s recently completed cycle, which he partly based on the Bible book of Esther. These two drivers of empowerment, new and old, are linked by a filmed choreography with Niaya Jones aka BOSSLADY, an eighteen-year-old dancer born and raised in the projects of South Central Los Angeles. The film, Living in America, was created and directed by award-winning visual artist and filmmaker Miriam Kruishoop.
