ART MOVIE MONDAY A new concept open-air cinema at H’ART Museum in Amsterdam

This summer, Amsterdam’s largest and most romantic open-air cinema returns to the historic courtyard of H’ART Museum for the seventh year in a row. This year, the compilers of the film program once again present a fantastic selection of film classics. New is Art Movie Monday. Where every film on Monday is all about art. The introduction is provided by art critics and experts such as Cathelijne Blok (NRC), Sara van Binsbergen (Volkskrant) and Toef Jaeger (NRC). Audiences can look forward to art films such as Basquiat (Aug 5), Visages / Villages (Aug 12), Exit Through the Gift Shop (Aug 19) and The Square (Aug 26). Complete the ultimate date night with a visit to the H’ART Museum’s blockbuster exhibition, Kandinsky .

Furthermore, Movies at H’ART Museum will once again be offering a rich and versatile program this year. From the three-time Oscar-winning Dallas Buyers Club (2013) starring Matthew McConaughey to the brand new sci-fi comedy Poor Things (2023) and from the American neo noir Memento (2000) by director Christopher Nolan to the Studio A24 horror/mystery Midsommar (2019). The weather forecast promises cinematic summer evenings, but in case of rain ponchos are available.

New this year is Art Movie Monday. The art theme on Mondays with iconic Art Movies and mini art lectures filling the program. Before these art films, a special support program will take place, focusing on art. No quiz, as usual, but a short, live interview with an art expert with room for questions from the audience. There are a total of four editions of the Art Movie Monday. The first will take place on Monday, August 5. The biographical indie film Basquiat (1996) is shown after a conversation with art historian and journalist Cathelijne Blok will be the focus on Monday, August 12 Visages / Villages ( Faces Places , 2017) . The film is introduced by Sara van Binsbergen, reviewer and editor at de Volkskrant. Van Binsbergen will also be in the courtyard of H’ART Museum on Monday August 19 to talk about Banksy prior to Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010). An Oscar-nominated film about a French shopkeeper and a filmmaker who try to document the graffiti artist Banksy. The superior satire film is on Monday, August 26 The Square (2017) central. Novelist and visual arts editor at NRC Handelsblad Toef Jaeger is then interviewed about modern art.
