Niek Baar wins the 2018 Netherlands Violin Competition in the Oskar Back category

Niek Baar was declared winner of the Dutch Violin Competition 2018 in the Oskar Back category. The finals of the competeition’s four categories were held on Saturday, 20th January at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Patron HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands awarded the prizes the following evening.

But the Saturday evening belonged to Nick Baar. He played Schumann’s Violin Concerto and afterwards said, “I really enjoyed this week and almost forgot that I was competing.”

Tim Brackman and Hawijch Elsewhere were the other finalists in the Oskar Back group during the beautiful final concert in the Great Hall of TivoliVredenburg.

Hawijch Elsewhere won the audience award.

Other winners were Davina van Wely in the Luna De Mol category, Anna Schultsz in the Iordens B while the Iordens A category was won by Kira van der Woerd.
