February Festival presents the fourth edition from 30th June to 4th July 2021 in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague. The festival takes place for the first time in a month other than February.
After previous successful editions, in which composers Robert and Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven took center stage, the 2021 festival will highlight the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The February Festival offers five days of experience and deepening of classical music. The festival shows how lively and inspiring classical music can be.
Violinist Simone Lamsma, next season ‘Artist in Residence’ with Amare & the Residentie Orkest, will be prominently present during the festival; because of her exceptional stage presence and appealing way of communicating with the public, she has distinguished herself on stages at home and abroad for years. And soon with us in The Hague. Concerts are also given by Thomas Beijer, Nicolas van Poucke, Malevich Piano Quartet, Alexander Ullman, Dana Zemtsov, Coraline Groen, Marion Dumeige, Jeroen Dupont, Richard Egarr, members of the Residentie Orkest and last but not least; the French piano duo Arthur Ancelle & Ludmila Berlinskaya. In total, more than thirty (inter)national musicians perform in the Nieuwe Kerk.
The festival stimulates the listener by combining beloved and lesser-known works by Saint-Saëns with works by composers who admired or followed him; Gabriel Fauré, Mel Bonis, Augusta Holmes, Eugène Ysaÿe, Cécile Chaminade and César Franck.
