After sixteen amazing years, Maya Roest is saying goodbye to Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. From joining the company at just 20 years old to dancing with many renowned choreographers and performing across the globe, Maya’s journey at Scapino has been nothing short of remarkable.
Having recently watched another dance-theatre piece featuring a topless male figure with an animal headdress, I believed I had an idea of what to anticipate while simultaneously keeping an open mind. However, this interactive, intimate, and bold performance was a truly unexpected delight.
This decision is the result of two important developments. Museum Prinsenhof, the beating heart of our festival, will be closed for the next two years for a large-scale renovation. In addition, we are confronted with rising costs and falling income from fundraising. Although the support of our Friends has helped us to partly absorb these deficits, a balanced budget is necessary to make a next edition possible.

With a cohesive technical quality and fluidity in their movements, the dancers’ interactions and varying formations give the piece a storytelling quality. The internal struggles are often expressed in quick, rapid, and sharp movements which are executed with precision.
The first lunchtime performance was the premiere of Tender Resistance, a brand new work by Leo Spreksel Award-winning choreographer Faizah Grootens. This is the first work she has made for Korzo as an artist-in-residence. Vulnerability, temperament and fluid movements run as common threads through her work.
Due to the great success, the exhibition has been extended until 2nd March.
