There a few sounds which can equal the drama, the suffering or the tenderness of the female voice, especially those of the Middle-East, India and the Arab cultures. This second Sacred Songs festival brings them altogether and celebrates them. Featured are the music and texts by women who, through their free spirit, their humanistic vision or their religious devotion have created songs for and of the soul. The headline act of the festival will be the renowned Serbian Divna Ljubojevic, angel-voiced singer of Eastern-orthodox church music. The concerts take place in the Nieuwe Kerk with its brilliant acoustics in which one can hear a whisper. The festival runs over a month with additional readings, workshops and films in other venues.
