For the third year in a row, Nederlands Dans Theater has emerged as the winner for the best online live streams of the past season. According to the reviewer’s survey in the 2023 yearbook of the dance magazine Tanz, NDT has delivered the best online performances. The jury was very impressed. “The Hague has shown great first class modern dance choreographies in perfect streaming quality. With sometimes as many as six cameras, the best of the dance world was broadcast to an international audience. This is a wonderful way to enjoy climate-friendly in the current time.

Emily Molnar, artistic director of NDT, “We are honoured to receive this award again for our digital theatre. As an international company, our live streams are no longer a solution during the pandemic, but a great opportunity to serve a global wine audience in a unique setting. We are already looking forward to our next streaming season in which we will once again give people the opportunity to enjoy dance in an alternative way.”

Willemijn Maas, business director of NDT, “It is fantastic that NDT has been named dance company with the most distinctive streaming offering for the third year in a row. We believe that this form contributes to reaching existing and new audiences and that it lowers the threshold to see and experience NDT. Of course, the experience of a live performance cannot be matched, but streaming is an indispensable art form that is a very good alternative or addition in terms of quality. NDT will therefore continue to improve its skills in bringing this offer.”

Digital Theatre
After theaters were allowed to reopen in the summer of 2020, many companies have made the choice to drop the digital options created during the lockdown. NDT has made the choice to continue with the live streams of the performances and offer video on demand and has joined forces with Holland Festival and International Theater Amsterdam. Together they decided to invest in the development of a Digital Theatre. An online platform that makes it possible to reach a wide and new (international) audience. The Digital Theater will be further developed with additional functionalities. Other performing arts/companies can also join the Digital Theater.
