For nearly 40 years now, De Krakeling has been the principal theatre for young audiences.

In our magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam, just a stone’s throw away from the Leidseplein and the Koekjesbrug (Cookies bridge), you can enjoy a variety of plays weekly. Bring your whole family!

De Krakeling, founded in 1978, is the one and only professional youth theatre in Amsterdam and the Netherlands and offers top of the line theatre performances for children, youngsters, and their families to enjoy.

De Krakeling aims to show a young audience (from 2 up to 18 years) from all walks of life that theatre is an enriching experience. Theatre bursts through the familiarity of daily life, opens up room for imagination, invites you to be amazed, and to empathize, while providing an open perspective on to the world we live in. De Krakeling shows a high quality collection of mainly Dutch and Flemish theatre, puppet and object theatre, musical theatre and dance performances of both renowned theatre producers as well as promising new talent.

Alongside this, De Krakeling runs an educational programme to which 20.000 kids from both primary and secondary school attend every year. Over the course of almost 40 years, De Krakeling has developed into the centre of expertise for the Dutch youth theatre sector.

The auditorium has an inviting character due to the black box theatre allowing the audience to sit up close to the performing actors. Before and after the show the foyer is open to enjoy a drink, host a birthday party, or participate in a workshop. The monumental building, its foyer, auditorium, and basement can be leased and are equipped for a wide range of occasions.
